Safed study of Olive Tree 1989 2017-08-18T12:07:58+00:00

Project Description

Purchase

In 1989 I went to Israel to work on a kibbutz for a few months.  Kibbutz Kfar Hanassi up in the Galil,   not far from the artist community around Safed and Rosh Pinah.  The program I was on included art classes, photography classes and Hebrew language classes (Ulpan) … along with the regulatory tough manual labour.

My contemporaries were budding artists from all over the world and it was really interesting to see all their different styles.

We often went on day trips out to draw the landscape around us.  Most of all I enjoyed producing detailed illustrations in ink and ink wash.  I had never seen an Olive Tree before, growing up in England, and found their trunks really fascinating and beautiful.
